Day 04: Write About Someone Who Inspires You

For Day 04 of my 30-Day Writing Challenge, I was asked to Write About Someone Who Inspires You. It didn’t even take me 5 seconds to think of that one person. Of course, my biggest inspiration is my Nanay (mom). It’s always been her.

Nanay and Ken

My mother was adopted by a couple who had a hard time conceiving their own child. My grandparents were rich, and you could even say that my mother was extremely lucky to land a family like that. She grew up with a silver spoon in her mouth. You would think that that kind of upbringing would spoil her and make her a terrible mother.

She married my dad, who came from a humble family. My mom moved out of her parents’ house when she got pregnant with my sister. She and my dad led a simple life. In stories like these, you would expect that they guy would do everything in his power to provide for his family, but nope, this story doesn’t go that way. My dad was/is lazy as fuck. He stopped working when he got into an accident that made him blind in one eye. Since then he has stopped working. For the 28 years I’ve been alive, I have never seen him work to provide for our family.

My mother did everything by herself. She stood both as our mother and our father. She has successfully sent my sister and I into private primary and secondary schools. She got us into college, and she was able to finance my costly culinary education.

She is my inspiration to become successful in life. I wanted to make sure I can repay her for everything she has done for me and my sister. I may have lost my way recently, but I know deep inside my heart that I’m meant to do great things. Things that would surely make my mother proud!

Day 03: What Are Your Top Three Pet Peeves?

I actually have a lot of pet peeves, and narrowing them down to only three is driving me crazy. But, alas, I’ll be writing the first 3 things that came to my mind.

What Are Your Top Three Pet Peeves?

  1. Not matching spoons and forks – I feel uneasy when I get spoons and forks that are not matching. I’d rather use my hands to eat. This doesn’t seem to bother my mom though, since our dish rack has an assortment of spoons and forks of various shapes, size, and weight. One time, I took all the spoons and forks with no matching pairs and hid them in our stock room. I wanted to throw them, honestly, but my mom would surely kill me if I did.
  2. Lapses in grammar or misspellings – I’m no expert in writing or even spelling, but I get really annoyed when people commit basic grammatical errors and misspell words that are all too common, like misusing the word ‘lose’ when what they’re really trying to say is ‘loose.’
  3. Sloppy kissers – I’m talking about people that, whenever they kiss you, even your cheeks and chin are wet with saliva. Yuck! I was kissing this guy one time and he was such a sloppy kisser that I seriously pushed his face away and wiped my face clean of his saliva.

That’s it. I’ll be making a longer list of my pet peeves soon on a separate blog post. Teehee!

Day 02: Write Something Someone Told You About Yourself That You Never Forgot

Write Something Someone Told You About Yourself That You Never Forgot

For day 02 of my 30-day writing challenge, I was tasked to write something someone told me about myself that I never forgot. Hmmm… That’s a tough one. The only thing that comes to my mind was the time I was doing the dirty with my ex-boyfriend. He stopped midway through having sex and told me that I look like this local female celebrit, Pauleen Luna. It was just so random and his timing was totally off that I haven’t forgotten about it even after 8 years.

Here are our photos side-by-side:

Ken and Pauleen Luna

Sorry, but I don’t see the resemblance. Our noses may look the same, but other than that, we look completely different. And add the fact that we’re of opposing genders. Haha.

Day 01: List 10 Things That Make You Really Happy

So I decided to start another 30-day writing challenge, which I’m sure I won’t be able to finish… again… for the third time. Haha! But let’s see how it goes this time.

30 Day Writing Challenge

For today’s writing prompt, this random 30-day challenge photo I found through Google is asking to me list 10 things that make me really happy. Disclaimer: most of them are about food.

10 Things That Make Me Really Happy

  1. Eating tocino – If I could eat only one food for the rest of my life, I would probably choose tocino. It’s everything I want in food. It’s sweet and salty, and it’s made of pork. Yum!
  2. Eating Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups – I can’t remember the first time I’ve tried this candy, but I’m pretty sure I knew then that it was love at first bite! And it combines two of my favorite food — peanut butter and chocolate!
  3. Making my mother proud – Let’s be honest. Most of us are going through our lives with the goal of becoming someone successful, and I’m no different. Knowing that I’m someone who my mom can be proud of makes me really happy.
  4. Going to the beach – I love the beach! There’s something about digging my feet into the sand and basking under the sun that make me feel real calm and relaxed. I wish someday to retire at a home by the beach. I don’t care if I’m the first one to go during a tsunami. I’ll embrace death with open arms!
  5. Having freshly changed bed sheets and pillowcases – I love to sleep. Eight hours of sleep is not enough for me. If I could sleep for 24 hours, I would do it. Sadly, I have adult responsibilities to attend to. It sucks, I know. Haha!
  6. Buying a new gadget – Call me materialistic but I love having new gadgets. This year alone, I bought a new laptop, a TV, a PS3, an SJ4000 WiFi camera, a pocket WiFi, and an extra Samsung phone, which I’m not using at all. No surprise I don’t have much in my bank account. Damn.
  7. Watching a good movie all by myself – Sometimes it’s nice to have friends and family along when watching a movie, but I find that I enjoy it more when I do it alone, just like when The Martian movie came out. I rushed out of the house and went straight to the mall the moment I found out that it was already showing. It was on a Wednesday afternoon, so there were not so many people in the cinema, and I got myself the best seat in the house. Plus, I had no idea that the movie was in 3D at the cinema I booked. It was not listed on the ClickTheCity app.
  8. Eating – I know the first two things on my list were already about food, but this time, I’m talking about ‘eating’ in general. I love food. I’m always happy when I have a full stomach.
  9. Seeing cute or hot guys – Come on! Don’t tell me you don’t feel all giddy with happiness when you see a cute or hot guy walking past by. They’re so satisfying to look at! And I always imagine all the dirty things I’d do to them if I see them passed out in my room. Just my malicious thought are enough to guarantee me a ticket to hell. Well, at least I’m happy.
  10. Sex – Technically, I’ve been obstinate for 5 years, but I used to enjoy sex… a lot. I think it’s time to break this dry spell. Haha!
